Meghalaya stories through my lense

Meghalaya: The Land of waterfalls and Hidden Wonders

If there’s one place that completely took my breath away, it has to be Meghalaya. This place feels like a dream come true in all ways. The name itself means “Abode of Clouds” and honestly, it fits well. If you’re someone who loves nature, adventure, and culture, you have to visit this Northeast as a whole.

The Journey Begins

One day, my friends and I very randomly made plans to visit Meghalaya. Honestly, we never thought it would happen, just like all our other plans. But somehow, this time, it HAPPENED. Seeing Meghalaya through my own eyes? its breathtaking.

We first took flight from Delhi to Guwahati. From Guwahati, we tagged along in a shared cab and made our way to Shillong. The journey itself was beautiful, with beautiful rolling hills and misty air welcoming us into this dreamy place.

Exploring Shillong

I think i left my heart and soul at the time we visited this beautiful place. After relaxing for a while, we stepped out to explore the main market of Shillong, where we tasted some delicious local food. Oh! The city has such a vibrant and charming vibe, with a mix of old-world charm and lively cafes.

Mawlynnongcalled as “The Cleanest Village”

Next, we headed to Mawlynnong, known as cleanest village ( i remember this studying in school, we were all taught about this village and here we are visiting it). And trust me, the title is well deserved. The streets were spotless, the people were incredibly warm and welcoming, and everything felt so peaceful. It was refreshing to see how the locals took such pride in their surroundings and take everything to make it a better place.

Dawki – Where India Meets Bangladesh

We made our way to Dawki, home to the famous Umngot River. The water was so crystal clear that boats looked like they were floating in the air we could see what was below. And just across the river, we could see the Bangladesh border—so close, yet another world away.

Nohkalikai Waterfall – what a beauty Nature’s Spectacle

One of the most breathtaking place we visited was Nohkalikai Waterfall, India’s tallest waterfall. Standing there, watching the waterfall along with a beautiful sun-set water droping from such a great height into a stunning blue pool, was an unforgettable experience. The view was mesmerizing, it left us in awe.

Krang Suri Waterfall – A Hidden Paradise

Another gem we visited was Krang Suri Waterfall. The blue water and the serene surroundings made it feel like a hidden paradise. It felt like someone should stop the time later We even took a dip in the refreshing waters, and it was one of the most relaxing experiences of the trip.

The Double Decker Root Bridge Trek

Later, we decided to visit the famous Double Decker Root Bridge. We planned our trip and found ourselves a tiny roadside room to stay in for the night. Despite its simplicity, the place felt incredibly safe, and the locals welcomed us with the warmest heart and food.

The next morning, the lady from our stay personally dropped us off at the starting point of the trek. That’s the kind of kindness you experience in Meghalaya. The trek itself? One hell of an adventure! The trail was long and steep, surrounded by thick greenery, waterfalls, and the sound of nature, and beautiful trail without and garbage, I would say people there are more sensible.

Daumn! our Legs were Trembling, But We Kept Going!

By the time we reached the double decker bridge, our legs were trembling like crazy, but we couldn’t stop—we had to see every single viewpoint and later go ahead till the Rainbow waterfall! And it was so worth it. Hidden deep in the forest, we stumbled upon the most incredible blue lagoon, untouched and free from trash. The water was so blue and serene that it felt like a secret paradise, also the day we trekked there was literally no one there.

Meghalaya – A Land of Simplicity and Beauty

Northeast India is simply beautiful and stunnig. Our trip was filled with filled with breathtaking waterfalls, crystal-clear water bodies, and some of the kindest people I’ve ever met. The state and its people taught me the true beauty of simplicity. Life here is slow and peaceful where one is rushing, and everyone is content.

It’s always like stepping into a dream, one that I never wanted to wake up from, where I can stay for ever.
